The Internationale

We are offering this new instrumental version of The Internationale, the anthem of the socialist movement since 1877.

The lyrics were written in 1871 by Eugene Pottier, a member of the First International as well as the Paris Commune. Since that time, the song has been translated into every major world language, with interesting variations being brought forth within each language, from generation to generation. We have provided the original English version here.

The melody was written by Pierre Degeyter. This arrangement was written and performed by Andrew Hammer.

Arise, you workers from your slumbers
Arise, you prisoners of want;
For reason in revolt now thunders
And at last ends the age of cant.

Away with all your superstitions
Servile masses, arise, arise!
We'll change henceforth the old tradition
And spurn the dust to win the prize.

So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale
Unites the human race!

So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale
Unites the human race!
