The intention of Socialist is rather simple: to provide a fresh, young, and different look at the world of socialist politics and social movements. Our interest is in building communication and information between people who share the ideal of a democratic society, where the decisions that affect our lives are made by all of us, not merely those few who rule over us through money or raw power.
Our politics are those of the historical movements of democratic socialism which have gained the support of millions of people throughout the world: the movements that have always believed in the power of people to meet our needs; the movements which have always maintained that there cannot be socialism without democracy.
We are a diverse lot, with our writers coming from international parties and organisations that have different views on the vision and definition of socialism today. However, we welcome that diversity as an opportunity to share ideas and build an understanding between pragmatists and idealists as we head into a new century. Our common bond is that we are all committed, as socialists (however we may define this), to the pursuit of economic democracy and social justice.
You won't find a lot of dry theory here; we're trying to write from the heart, about what we see as our tasks and challenges in pursuing those aims. What we want to offer is a way to rebuild the energy and the sense of possibility that our movement had in its birth, in order to recapture the hope that together, we can still make a difference, and dramatically change the world.
